Estate of JOHN MORRISETTE. From Minutes of Probate Court, Book O:

p. 68. July 17, 1871. Came EDMUND P. MORISETT, administrator of the estate of JOHN MORRISETT, and filed petition asking the court for an order to sell the lands for division. The only heirs are:

FRANCIS MORRISETT, who lives near BELL’s LANDING, in Monroe Co., Alabama

EDMUND P. MORRISETT, Montgomery, Alabama

–both brothers of JOHN MORRISETT, dec’d, and of full age.

CAROLINE, a sister of deceased, living at Enterprise, Mississippi, and married to DR. A. BALDWIN

The minor children of JAMES D. MORRISETT, brother of deceased; to wit; MAUD, LALULA, and MAY, who reside at Washington, Arkansas, in custody of their mother, MRS. F. B. MORRISETT.

The minor son of GEORGE G. MORRISETT, a brother of dec’d, named ROBINSON MORRISETT, residing at Claiborne, in Monroe Co., Alabama, in custody of his mother, MRS. CORNELIA R. WILLIAMS.

p. 153. Same volume. Description of the land, which was in Hale and Perry Counties.

p. 220. Nov. 18, 1871. Report of the sale of the lands, on 6th Nov. 1871, in front of the court house, in Perry County. Land bought by EDMUND P. and FRANCIS S. MORRISETTE, at $12.00 an acre. Total, $11,040.

From Minutes of Probate Court, Book P, p. 171:

December 9, 1873, Final settlement of the estate of JOHN MORRISETT. No new family data, except CAROLINE M BALDWIN: ROBINSON MORRISETT, a minor, resides with his legal guardian JOHN MCLEOD, in Wilcox County, Alabama; LALULA and MAY reside with their mother and legal guardian, FANNIE B. MORRISETTE, in Washington, Arkansas.

The estate was divided into 5 equal shares of $1081.76.

Note: No mention of MAUD in this list of heirs.

Deed Book N, p. 296. 30 January 1857, JOHN MORRISETT and JAMES D. MORRISETT sold to HENRY JEMISON, for $10,000, 480 A. land in T18, R6, in Perry County, and in T18, R5, in Marengo County,

JOHN and JAMES D. MORRISETT acknowledged their signatures to this deed before J. J. DRAKE, J.P., in Perry County, Alabama on 23 MARCH, 1857.

From Deed Book N, p. 624. 8th February 1858. I, EDMUND W. ROBARDS, of Monroe County, Alabama, administrator of the estate of JOHN MORRISETT, dec’d, late of said County, sold to JOHN MORRISETT, for $25, 683.10, land in Perry and Marengo Counties, containing in all 712.43 acres.

From Deed Book G, p. 202. 26 Feb., 1844. GRAY HUCKABEE and MARTHA A., his wife, of Greene County, Alabama sold to JOHN MORRISETTE of Monroe County, Alabama for $700.00 160 A. in Marengo and Perry Counties, in T18, R5, and R6.

Correction: From Deed Book G, p. 202. 26 February 1844. GRAY HUCKABEE and MARTHA A., his wife, of Marengo Co., Alabama, sold to JOHN MORRISETT of Monroe Co., Alabama for $500.00, 240 A. in T18, R6, in Perry County, Alabama

From Deed Book g, p. 526. 10th Sept. 1844. THOMAS R. BORDEN and ANN M., his wife of Greene Co., Alabama sold to JOHN MORRISETT, of Monroe County, Alabama, for $700.00, 160 A. in Marengo and Perry Counties, in T18, R5 and R6.

Deed Book M, p. 164. 3rd March 1855, ROBERT J. SEMPLE, MARY J. SHIELDS and EDWINA SHIELD, sold to JOHN and JAMES MORRISETT for $12, 888.72, land in T18, R5 and R6, in all 470.36 acres.

From “The Alabama Lawyer” , Vol 6, p. 129: JOHN MORRISETT, of a name long connected with the Claiborne region, lived at Bell’s Landing, not far from the Wilcox-Monroe County line. He was born in Rogersville, in East Tennessee; served through the war of 1812, then moved to St. Stephens, Alabama then the seat of the territorial government of Alabama, and there formed a partnership with JAMES LYON. He moved to Monroe County in 1821, after marrying FRANCES GAINES, a relative of GEN. EDMUND P. GAINES, under whom he had served in the Army. He then began the practice of law…..
