  1. Capt. Sam Dale…..one of my favorite men from the time of the settlement of MS Territory before AL became a state. He raised his 8 siblings after the deaths of his parents. He started his own wagonner business to support them. He was a scout, trailblazer, courier, Indian Fighter, part of the beginning government for AL; He was wounded at the Battle of Burnt Corn. At 6’2″ and 190 lbs his nickname was “Big Sam”. He was well thought of by Indians and whites alike. He was a brave fighter and defender of settlers. A most admirable man helping to establish our state in the very beginning.

  2. His final resting place is not far from me near the community that bears his name, Daleville, Ms.
