JOHN T. ‘SQUIRE’ BOYD, an early pioneer of Perry County, Alabama is believed to have been the son of Robert and Rosannah (Stewart) Boyd of Newberry, SC. He was born Oct. 11, 1795 in Newberry, SC and died Nov. 9, 1872 in Morgan Springs, Perry County, Alabama.

JOHN T. ‘SQUIRE’ BOYD married Elizabeth Blackburn, daughter of John and Nancy (Harris) Blackburn Sep 25, 1817 in Newberry District, South Carolina. Elizabeth was born January 21, 1797 in Newberry, SC and died August 24, 1856 in Morgan Springs, Perry County, Alabama. John and Elizabeth moved to the Brushy Creek, Perry County, Alabama area by 1820 when their 2nd child Rosanah S. Boyd was born. Many of his descendants moved west to Texas.

John and Elizabeth had at least ten known children. After Elizabeth died in 1856, John married 2nd Chellie Marinda Nixon in 1857.

    1. Hi Sam! I saw this and was interested in it because it also had a Stewart. My Grandmother was a Stewart from the Hale-Perry county area.

    2. I have a great great grandmother who was a Stewart from Hancock Co, Ga

    3. I’m having trouble sorting mine out. They go back so far to an Alfred Stewart from Georgia or South Carolina

    4. Me too. Mine was a second wife but named first daughter after the first wife so I think the wives may have been related

  4. I am related to the “Boyd’s, B;ackburn’s, Canon’s, Moreland’s, Mackey’s, and more. This is on my paternal side. I found this information on ancestry site. Fascinated to find a book has been written on this family. I am sure my father is a descendent of these names.

  6. Can remember going in the Sprott and Taylor stores when we would go visit Grandaddy, James Curtis Nichols and later when we would go to Uncle Fred’s. Always funny to see someone come to help you from watching TV in their den at Taylor store

  9. Couldn’t you find a picture of Morgan Springs where he was when he died. Great store here just wondered since you gave his death at Morgan Speings

  10. I was born in Marion remember sports store well in fact we had timber property down the road where I took my boys hunting over the years
