My GGGrandfather John Thomas McGaughey(1861-1940) was quite a character.

John Thomas McGaughey(1861-1940) John Thomas McGaughey(1861-1940)

One time when a group of men were standing around a wood pile John begin to brag that he could be blindfolded smell any type of wood and tell you what kind it was..so he took out his red handkerchief and tied it around his eyes.woodpile

The first guy held up a piece of wood to Johns nose he took a whiff and said that’s apple and he was right.

They held up another and it was oak and he was right.

Unknowingly to John they grab up an old tom cat and held his butt to Johns nose he took a whiff then paused and said that’s sassafras.tom cat
John was once quoted the first time he ever saw a motor car…”Those folks are going to break their dern fool necks”…he never owned a car just a horse and wagon.newsclipping
