Enoch Aldredge was born in Bledsoe county, Tennessee, in 1807, and came with his parents to Blount in December 1816. His father was Andrew Alldredge (1782 – 1848) and mother was Leah (Chaney) Alldredge (1784-1854)
Enoch Alldredge was a grandson of Nathan Alldredge and Jerry Chaney. Both were Revolutionary war soldiers from VA. Colonel Alldredge served 35 years in Alabama Legislative in both houses. He is buried in the Alldredge Cemetery at Brooksville, AL.”
He grew to manhood here, and in 1836 was a private in Capt. Musgrove’s company during the Creek troubles. He was elected to the general assembly the same year and served the county in one house or the other for eighteen years between 1836 and 1863.
In 1862 he raised a company, and at the organization of the Forty-eighth Alabama Infantry was elected major of it. He commanded the regiment at Cedar Run and was there seriously wounded. He resigned soon after.
Col. Enoch Aldredge resided on his farm in Brooksville after the war. Col. Aldredge was a faithful public servant, and deserved much credit as a self-made man. He was a close observer of men and possesses much sagacity and energy.
Of his seven sons who were in the Confederate service, one was killed at the second Manassas, one died in prison at Fort Donelson, and one was crippled permanently. Lieutenant Colonel Jesse J. Aldredge and Captain Andrew J. Aldredge, both of the Forty-eighth Alabama Infantry, are two of his sons.
He married Amelia Pace (1811 – 1864) and they had the following known children:
