My mom told me about her dad going to Mobile & would bring ice back to their home in Choctaw County, AL.

54 years ago here in Limestone county there was major snowstorm here. Windchills 15-20 fegrees. Some of State recordings were -27 degrees, 19.5 inches. 12 to 18 inches in Birmingham.
