ISAAC ABERCROMBIE

Isaac Abercrombie was born in Scotland in 1748. He is first found in America in 1769 acquiring land in Laurens County, South Carolina. Sometime later he sold this land to his brother James and purchased land in Anson County, North Carolina. The first deed was recorded on August 18, 1789. His name continued to appear on deeds in Anson County. In 1811, Isaac began to sell the land and by 1823, he had sold the last piece of property in Anson County.

On June 10, 1824, a deed is found where he purchased land in Perry County, Alabama. Sometime before 1824, Isaac and his wife Mary traveled with some of their children, in-laws, and grandchildren as well as a number of slaves to Alabama. On the same day that Isaac registered his land, he made his will and August 1825 his will was probated so he must have been quite elderly when he arrived in Alabama.

Isaac and his wife are buried in the Abercrombie Cemetery on a tree-shaded knoll off State Highway 183. It has been abandoned for many years and his tombstone can no longer be found. The latest marker bears the date 1887, for an Infant Bolling.
