BIOGRAPHY and GENEALOGY
(1825-1899)
Bibb County, Alabama
Frederick Monroe James’ second wife was Sarah Jane Arnold. She was born July 8, 1825 in Bibb County, Alabama to the pioneer family of William A. and Elizabeth (Majors) Arnold who came to Bibb County, Alabama in the early formation of the state. William and Elizabeth Majors were married in Bibb County Aug. 8, 1824. All their children were born in Alabama then William and Elizabet moved with their family to Oktibbha, Mississippi before the 1850 census, where they remained.
William and Elizabeth Arnold had the following children:
- Sarah Jane Arnold was the oldest daughter born July 8, 1825 in Bibb County. She married Samuel L. Walker Nov. 5, 1841 in Bibb county. He died in 1842 and she married widower Frederick Monroe James. After his death, she may have married Charles Saunders in Oktibbha, Mississippi.
- Elizabeth Ellen Arnold was born Dec. 22, 1826. She died in 1827.
- John M. Arnold was born Oct. 1, 1828. He moved to Mississippi with his family and possibly serve in the Civil War. He married Caroline Cummins. He died July 4, 1864.
- James W. Arnold was born April 27, 1830 and died in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
- Elizabeth Arnold moved to Mississippi with her family – She may have married James Miller.
- Mary Ann Arnold was born Jan. 22, 1832. She moved to Mississippi with he family. She may have married an (Unknown) Reed.
- William Wyatt Arnold was born Jan. 12, 1834 and traveled with his family to Mississippi where he married Elizabeth (last name unknown) around 1853. They had eight children in 1870. Elizabeth may have died shortly after this census because William married a second time to someone named Jane and had four more children.
- Williamson Meredith Arnold was born September 13, 1835 in Alabama and he moved with his family to Mississippi. He married Mary J. (last name unknown). He joined his brother William Wyatt in Choctaw, Mississippi and raised a large family.
- Felix Marion Arnold was born Jan. 18,1841. He married Sarah Felicia Wood around 1863. They had four children.
