BIOGRAPHY and GENEALOGY
(1851-1930)
Randolph County, Alabama
William Falkner Ussery was born Dec. 23, 1851, in Randolph county, Ala. He was the eldest son of Calvin Jones Ussery (1816-1884) and Nancy (Falkner) Ussery His father moved from North Carolina to Randolph County, Alabama, when the county was first settled. There Mr. Ussery spent his early life on the farm, and managed the large manufacturing and milling plant of his father.
Business stagnation following the war and reconstruction measures urged Mr. Ussery to seek fortune in the Far West. He settled in Belle county, Texas, giving his energies to farming and cattle raising. He lived two years in Texas; while there he married Miss Clopton a niece of David Clopton, former justice of the supreme court of Alabama.
Two children were born, both of Roanoke, Alabama.
- Leila Lena Ophelia Ussery (1876-1943) she married John P. Seroyer
- Dr. Gordon Clopton Ussery (1895-1964)
Mr. Ussery conducted a hotel and livery business at Roanoke, Alabama. William Faulkner Ussery passed away January 19, 1930 and is buried at Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama.
