  1. I’m a descendent of the Abercrombie, Melton, Dobynes, Heard, Ford, England, Peoples. My great grandma was a peoples. My mother is a Melton, her name is Bettie Mae. Daughter of Preston Joe Melton & Verdia Dobynes from Sprott, Alabama. Off highway 219; highway 64; & highway 32.

  2. I love this website! I have a question and don’t know where to go for info. Maybe you can help. There was a institute (women’s, I think) on Hwy 25 between Montevallo and Centerville (maybe in the 6 mile area) Years ago it had a marker. Do you have any info about it. Thanks

    1. Perhaps it was Six Mile Academy. It was on Hwy 25. Check with the Centreville Public Library. They should have more information on it.

  3. I would like to know more about this. My grand parents are of the McCauley linneage. Where may I obtain this Volume I.

    1. Click on the picture. It will take you to a page with more information and a link for purchase of the book. Thanks for asking.

  6. Does anyone know where I could get a copy of Pioneer Families of Sumter County, Alabama, Vol. 2 by Nelle Jenkins? I have had Vol. 1 for years, but I have not a copy of 2. Thanks.

  7. Seems like anyone including last names of early pioneers would include those who bought and expanded large plantations , was a founding member and deacon of Sialom Church and Mars Hill Church and was one of those responsible for founding of both men’s and women’s colleges etc and whose many sons and grand children fought , bled and died to defend our state against attack as well as having a cemetery ( Jacob Kynerd ) on Fines Ferry Road named after him and the family where at least 40 people are buried. But hey, maybe it is just me.

    1. The sons married Fikes, Wilkinson, Jemison daughters and the daughters married Holley and Smith sons to name a few. The old Kynerd Home place is owned by Elam Holley Jr and he has restored the old house and family cemetery ( Jacob Kynerd cemetery) on Fikes ferry road.

  8. Hi, can anyone tell about Stevens???
