This is a must-read for any student of Alabama history and was the first real history book written in the state by Albert J. Pickett,  a man who knew many of the original founders of the state and knew many of the people that he wrote about.

  2. I never felt like Pickets history was very accurate.

  3. Oddly enough, although I have numerous ancestors involved in the founding of the state, only one of them is mentioned in this book. And incidentally, Amazon has it for $30.99 in hardback, $28.95 in paper.

  5. I have this book and bought one for my son. It is also sold on Amazon. It is a great read and very detailed. When I bought the book about 5 years ago it was around $50. The value has really tripled.
